INEC deploys 7,400 in Gombe
Elections 2011, Gombe, State News Saturday, April 2nd, 2011GOMBE State Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Mr. Godfrey Samson Miri, yesterday, declared that more than 7,400 electoral officials would be conducting tomorrow’s National Assembly elections in Gombe State.
Miri who was briefing journalists on INEC’s level of preparedness for the polls, said that three electoral officials were expected to man each of the polling unit across the 2,218 polling centres in the eleven local government areas of the State.
The commissioner noted that six political parties which included ANPP, CPC, SDMP, ADC, PDP and Labour Party, LP, had been cleared for the gubernatorial contest, adding that of these parties, AC, CPC, LP, PDP and ADC would be contesting the Senate seats while candidates from ACN, CPC, LP, PDP and SDMP were for the House of Representatives polls.
Miri who re-echoed the determination of INEC to conduct a free, fair and credible election also warned that any polling unit which recorded violence risked the cancellation of its results, adding that voting would be done in good time as there was no unit with more than one thousand registered voters.
