Insecurity Nigeria deserves effective security forces – US
American Politics, Latest Politics Thursday, July 5th, 2012THE United States government has said Nigeria deserves effective and accountable security forces to counter violent extremism in the country, as well as a coordinated campaign to deliver economic development.
This is even as it observed that violent insecurity being experienced in the country was a barrier to its economic growth.
US ambassador to Nigeria, Terence McCulley, who stated these at an occasion to mark the 236th anniversary of the declaration of independence of the US, in Abuja, on Wednesday, also insisted that Nigeria would become more attractive to both domestic and foreign investors by improving the rule of law.
He noted that by respecting the sanctity of contracts and ensuring transparency and accountability, Nigerian and international firms could compete on a level playing field.
“American investors are watching. They see Nigeria as a significant and long-term investment, and my government and this mission are committed to working with our Nigerian partners to address the challenges this great country faces, and improve investment opportunities for Americans and Nigerians alike,” he said.
He added that “as we look forward to our 237th year as an independent nation and to our 52nd year of engagement in Nigeria, we are committed to building a stronger trading relationship, and to working with our Nigerian friends to make this great country a magnet for American investment.”
