Investigation unveils killer of Flying Officer Tolulope Arotile, Nigeria’s first female combat pilot
Air Force, Armed Forces, Headlines, National Politics, NNP News, Top Stories Monday, July 20th, 2020(NNP) The Killer of Nigeria’s first female combat pilot, Flying Officer Tolulope Arotile, has been unveiled. He is Nehemiah Adejoh, a former classmate of the deceased Flying Officer at Air Force Secondary School. According to the investigation by the Nigerian Airforce, Mr. Adejoh, a civilian, was the driver of the Kia Sorento SUV with registration number AZ 478 MKA that ran over the officer while reversing to greet her. Mr. Adejoh was with two other classmates of the officer, Mr. Igbekele Folorunsho and Mr. Festus Gbayegun in the vehicle driving to see one Mrs. Chioma Ugwu, wife of Squadron Leader Chukwuemeka Ugwu, who lives at Ekagbo Quarters on the Base.
Upon sighting Flying Officer Arotile, who was at the school grounds, the driver excitedly reversed the car to meet up with her as she walked in the opposite direction. In the process, he struck the deceased who fell on the pavement suffering significant head injuries. While she was on the pavement, the vehicle still in reverse mode, ran over parts of her body, inflicting further injuries on her. Arotile was taken to the military hospital located at the base, but was pronounced dead at 04:45 pm.
The three men were immediately detained and tested for alcohol and other intoxicants. While no substance(s) was found in their system, it was discovered that the driver of the SUV did not possess a valid driver’s license. According to NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Ibikunle Daramola, the case has been referred to the Nigerian Police as it is deemed a civil case. In the meantime, NAF has announced that Flying Officer Arotile would be given a full military burial on Thursday, July 23 in Abuja.
