Vanguard gathered the House on June 24 this year, constituted an adhoc committee to investigate the activities of the 27 local government council chairmen in the state.

Presenting the report in the House, the committee recommended the immediate removal of Jahun council chairman from the office for alleged misconduct and negligence of duty, based on the provision of section 9 of Local Government Councils Law chapter 18 law of Jigawa State 2012.

The committee further recommended that Birniwa and Gumel local governments council’s chairmen be suspended for misconduct, dereliction of duty and   failure to comply with provisions of local government appropriation law.

The chairman of the   Committee, Musa Sule Dutse, also disclosed   that 10 local councils chairmen were found wanting by the committee, adding that they failed   to defend   themselves before the committee.

He pointed out that the cases of the remaining 17 local government chairmen were still under investigation.

The committee   also recommended that the two council chairmen should remain suspended until conclusion of further investigation by the assembly.

Vanguard reports that the sitting, which was presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Alhaji Muhammad Garba, adopted the report and pronounced the immediate removal and suspension of the three council chairmen.

In a   quick reaction to the decision, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state said it would seek legal interpretation of the verdict in court.

Chairman of the state PDP,  Alhaji Salisu Mamuda Kuit, described the decision of the state lawmakers as barbaric and an injustice.
