Jonathan’s wife lauds FG over training of female officers

The wife of the President, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, has lauded the Federal Government’s decision to redress the anomalies in the enlistment and training of female officers by the Armed Forces.
She made the commendation in a statement signed by her Special Assistant (Media), Dr. Isiaka Ali-agan, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Tuesday. The Federal Government had on Monday announced that female regular combatant officers can also undertake four-year courses at the Nigeria Defence Academy instead of the six-month short-service courses that had been the norm.
“Women have been marginalised in the military as a result of the former policy which was inherited from colonial masters. The President’s directive will now reverse the trend and afford women the opportunity to compete favourably with their male counterparts for the highest office in the military.
“We thank the government for the policy change which is in tandem with the 35 per cent affirmative action of the Women for Change and Development Initiative,” the statement added.
She urged all eligible women to avail themselves of the opportunity and register.wp_posts
