Jonathan Condoles With HID

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has commiserated with the Yeye Oodua, Chief (Mrs) HID Awolowo and the entire Awolowo family over the demise of one of her children, Otunba Ayo Soyode.

The president made a phone call to Chief (Mrs.) Awolowo at about 9.08 p.m on Thursday. By Friday afternoon, a delegation of ministers was already in Ikenne Remo, Ogun State, to deliver the president’s condolence message to the Awolowo family.

The ministers include Finance Minister, Olusegun Aganga; Sports Minister, Taoheed Adedoja; Minister of Commerce and Industry, Senator Jubril Martins Kuye and Alhaji Nojimudeen Ayodele, Minister of State for Agriculture.

Delivering President Jonathan’s message, Mr. Aganga, who spoke on behalf of the Federal Government delegation, said that “the prayers and thoughts of the whole nation is with the Awolowo family in this difficult time, in the life of the family.” He also noted that “the nation loves the family dearly.”

When asked by journalists if the Federal Government would take part in the burial process, Mr. Aganga replied “why don’t you wait and see. I’m sure the Federal Government will be represented there; there is no doubt about that.”

While appreciating the Federal Government’s delegation, a member of the Awolowo family, Dr (Mrs) Tokunbo Dosunmu-Awolowo, described President Jonathan as “kind and sympathetic” while acknowledging the kind gesture of the delegation.
