Jonathan effects minor cabinet reshuffle, swaps two ministers of state

President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday effected a minor cabinet reshuffle.

In the surprise shakeup, Jonathan moved the Minister of State for Power, Darius Dickson Ishaku, to the Ministry of Niger Delta.

Dickson swapped places with the Minister of State for Niger Delta, Hajia Zainab Kuchi.

The change takes effect from next week.

The announcement was made by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, while briefing State House correspondents at the end of Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council meeting.

Abati also said Jonathan had ordered FEC not to accept any fresh memo on contracts under the 2012 budget after November 30.

The Presidency had consistently denied reports of an impending cabinet reshuffle.

Jonathan removed Haliru Bello as minister of defence along with the National Security Adviser, Gen. Owoye Azazi, on June 22, 2012 while the Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji, resigned on August 28.

More details later.
