Jonathan elevates Odili,(in spite of husband’s looting of Rivers) Ngwuta to S/Court
Judiciary, Latest Politics Monday, June 20th, 2011ABUJA— President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, approved the elevation of Justice Nwali S. Ngwuta and Justice Mary Peter Odili to the Supreme Court bench.
The duo who were promoted to the apex court following recommendations by the National Judicial Council, NJC, were before yesterday Justices of the Appeal Court.
They were shortlisted by the legal body shortly after the President of the Appeal Court, Justice Isa Ayo Salami, vehemently resisted purported moves by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu, to push him to the Supreme Court, an offer he promptly declined, describing it as “a Greek gift.”
According to a statement issued in Abuja yesterday by the Deputy Director of Information at the NJC, Mr Soji Oye, the two justices will be sworn into office by the CJN on Thursday.
