Jonathan kicks off election campaign in Ibadan Tuesday

IBADAN, Oyo State capital, will again reaffirm its important place in the history of the country, as President Goodluck Jonathan is set to visit the city on Tuesday to kick off his nationwide presidential campaign ahead of the April 2011 election.

President Jonathan, Nigerian Tribune gathered, is billed to officially start his campaign for president at the Mapo Hall, Ibadan, on Tuesday, February 8, 2011, due to the strategic position which the city and the state hold in the region.

The choice of the city, Nigerian Tribune learnt, might not be unconnected with the massive support which the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) enjoys in the state and the fact that it remained one of the few states in the region that still remained in the hold of the party.

The visit will be Jonathan’s third to the Pacesetter State since he assumed office as the president in May 2010.

Confirming the scheduled presidential campaign take-off, the Director-General of the Alao-Akala Campaign Organisation, Chief Demola Ojo, said that everything had been put in place for the success of the programme, saying that the people of the state were fully prepared to receive and declare their unflinching support for the president, who he described as a friend of the state and the entire people of the country.

“Oyo State and the entire South-West are ready to receive the president, the national party machinery and the teeming supporters of the party in Ibadan, where our active president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, will officially begin his presidential campaign. Everything needed is on the ground to achieve the success of the landmark event,” he stated.
