Jonathan, Mark, Fashola Mourn Essien-Igbokwe

LATE CHRISTY ESSIEN IGBOKWE

President Goodluck Jonathan, President of the Senate, Senator David Mark have expressed grief over the death of ace musician and talented actress Mrs. Christy Essien-Igbokwe otherwise called ‘Lady of Songs’.

According to a statement from the office of the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Jonathan prayed God to grant the deceased “a peaceful rest from her earthly labours and bless her family with the fortitude and strength to bear the pain of her departure”.

In is a condolence message to the bereaved family, government and people of Anambra and Akwa Ibom states, Mark said, “The nation has lost a gem, a great mobiliser and patriot who believed in the emancipation of the down trodden with her music. Late Christy touched the lives many across the world. We would miss her. She has truly left a huge vacuum.

“Christy will remain ever green in our memories. She remains one of our icons. She surely deserves a prominent place in our history,” Senator Mark said.
He asked the bereaved family to take solace in the fact that late Christy lived a short but eventful and fulfilled life worthy of emulation. He specifically implored the entertainment industry to create a hall of fame in her honour in order to immortalise the late icon. The late musician died in Lagos at the age of 50 on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola has joined other sympathizers to mourn the late music icon. Fashola joined other sympathizers drawn mostly from the creative fraternity that thronged the residence of the deceased to commiserate with the family.
