Katsina: Corps member gives birth at orientation camp

A female corps member from Edo State, Shemahu Momodu, has been delivered of a baby girl on the first day of registration at Katsina State orientation camp.

The state NYSC coordinator, Mr Ebenezer Afolalu, who disclosed this at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2012 batch “B” corps members, on Wednesday, said the corps member gave birth at the camp clinic.

Afolalu said the female corps member was delivered of the baby girl by some batch “B” corps doctors, who assisted to ensure the stability of both mother and child before being referred to the Federal Medical Centre, Katsina.

He said out of the 2,500 corps members deployed to the state, so far, 1,383 male and 761 female corps members had reported at the close of registration at the orientation camp.

The state NYSC boss said during the period of the orientation exercise, corps members would undergo paramilitary training, entrepreneurship development programme and lectures, as well as drills in martial arts.

Afolalu, however, urged the corps members to adjust to the lifestyle in the camp, adding that “here, laws are made to be obeyed,

instructions are to be taken without questions, and this place is like a military camp and, therefore, is seen as such”.
In his remarks, Governor Ibrahim Shema said the state government would deploy the youth corps members to agricultural establishments,

to enhance its agricultural revolution programme.

Shema, represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Alhaji Mannir Talba, said the project was aimed at reducing poverty, empowering the youth and guarantee food security in the state and the nation in general.wp_posts
