Kenya stops league for Eagles
Headlines, Soccer, Sports Monday, May 27th, 2013For long, they have been yearning for a raise in their allowances and Monday they got their wish when the Football Kenya Federation announced that Harambee Stars players’ daily allowances have been increased from Sh3000 to Sh10,000 (N18, 615) per player, as motivation ahead of their remaining 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
“We want to encourage the boys and we have decided to increase their daily allowances. We want to motivate the players and achieve the goals we intend to reach,” Football Kenya Federation boss, Sam Nyamweya, told SuperSport.com..
And in a bold move to ensure that there are no distractions ahead of the June 5th cracker with the Super Eagles, the federation also said that all domestic league and cup matches slated for this weekend have been postponed to afford Coach Adel Amrouche enough time to prepare for the game against the African champions.
Nigeria top the group with five points and Kenya need to beat the latter to have any chance of picking the sole qualifying ticket to the final phase of the 2004 World Cup race.
This comes as the Belgian confirmed that Inter Milan midfielder MacDonald Mariga will miss the qualifier against African champions Nigeria.
Mariga who hasn’t featured for the side for over a year has not recovered from his long standing knee injury.
