In a move to increase the 500 housing units awarded in 2014, the Kogi State Government recently made available 37,000 hectares of land for the construction of affordable houses for workers.

Governor Yahaya Bello, announced this at the ground-breaking ceremony of the scheme in Lokoja where a whopping sum of N10 billion was set aside for the construction of 1,200 housing units for workers in the state.

The initiative according to the governor was in partnership with the organised labour that comprise the Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress, and the Nigerian Employers’ Consultative Association.

Bello said the initiative was in furtherance of the Federal Government’s commitment to providing affordable housing for all workers. He stated that everyone deserves a decent home, promising that the government would not leave any stone unturned in realising this objective.

In 2014, the Kogi State government awarded contracts for the construction of 500 housing units for N1.4 billion.

The then Commissioner for Information and Home Affairs, Alhaji Yabagi Bologi, said that 300 of the houses would be located in Lokoja, the state capital, while the remaining 200 would be spread across the 20 local government areas of the state. Bologi said the houses comprise one, two and three bed-room flat.

The housing contracts which was awarded to Fakojo Property Limited, Hacosa Construction Company, SAMA International Service Limited and Dorina Nigeria Limited was financed from the proceeds of the bond obtained by the state government.
