Lagos: Gunman kills Chinese, cart away money

A lone gun man, Tuesday, shot dead the Chief Accountant of Western Metal Products Company Limited, WEMCO, along Acme Road, Ogba,  Lagos, carting away an unspecified amount of money.

The deceased, a Chinese, identified as Chun Yuen Henry, was returning from the Adeniji Jones branch of one of the new generation banks, when he was attacked by the gun man, who eye witnesses said wore a mobile police uniform.

The assailant, who apparently trailed the foreign national from the bank, struck while the traffic light on Acme Road turned red. The deceased  was on his way to the company at about 4.50 p.m. when the incident happened.

Eye witnesses said the unsuspecting Chinese, who was  in the company’s car,  was shot on the head by the gunman.  The gunman thereafter, made away with the money, which was by Yuen side, unmolested.

The gunshots jolted other road users, some of whom defiled the traffic light , by zooming off, which  almost caused  multiple accident.

His driver and only passenger with him, one Olasunkanmi Akeem , reportedly came out of the vehicle and called for help. But when sympathizers arrived , it was discovered that Yuen was dead.

Policemen from Ogba later arrived the scene and removed the corpse to the mortuary.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Yusuf Alkali, who confirmed the incident, said no arrest had been  made yet but that the command had stepped up its investigation.

Noting that the command  gave the company enough  police security considering the economic activities  that goes on in the company,  Alkali wondered  why no  policemen was detailed to accompany the deceased to the bank, stating that the  incident could have been averted had one of the policemen accompanied him.
