LAGOS — TWENTY-ONE out of 8,160 of the Lagos State University, LASU, who graduated Wednesday, bagged First Class Honours, while 1106 others made Second Class Upper.
Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor John Obafunwa, who disclosed this at the award of diplomas and degrees during the school’s 18th Convocation ceremony, said 5341 made Second Class Lower, while 1592 received Third Class Honour.
According to him, while 88 graduated with pass, the College of Medicine graduated 12 students.
Addressing the graduates, he said: “To all graduands, there is the need to draw your attention to the significance of a day like this in your life as individuals and members of the society.
“In summary it is by the special grace of God not by your own efforts that you are here today.
“Since education does not end with the granting of a degree, you must be ready to face the challenges by not only looking forward, and be focused but also looking back, to build on your experiences in life.”
Prof Obafunwa noted that University intended to commence its Faculty of Agriculture at Epe, and its School of Nursing by the beginning of the 2013/2014 academic session.
He added arrangement had been concluded for the establishment of the Departments of Civil and Aerospace Engineering and the Department of Civil Engineering at the Epe Campus.
He added: “The University has also concluded plan for the establishment of the School of Film, Performing Arts and Cultural Studies which would probably be the first in Africa.”
