Libya: FG to airlift evacuees’ luggage

The Federal Government has said that it will deploy cargo aircraft to airlift the luggage of stranded Nigerians evacuated from Libya by the International Organisation for Migration/United Nations Refugee Agency.
The Federal Government had evacuated over 4,500 Nigerians from Libya before the UN-Declaration of No-Fly Zone over Libya. However, the International Organisation for Migration and the United Nations Refugee Agency have, since the declaration of No-Fly Zone, evacuated stranded foreigners, including Nigerians, through Tunisia
The assistance of the international bodies is under a project called ‘Third Country Nationals Evacuation from Libya.’ The objective of the project is to help migrants stranded in the wake of the Libyan crisis back to their respective countries.
A statement by the Head, Public Relations, National Emergency Management Agency, Yushau Shuaib, on Tuesday quoted the Director General of NEMA, Alhaji Sani Sidi; as saying that the agency would send cargo aircraft to airlift the luggage of Nigerians, who were evacuated from Tunisia to Lagos International Airport.
