Man, 60, dies after torture at Oba’s palace

A 60-year-old man, Timothy Adegboye who was beaten at the palace of the Ogiyan of Ejigbo in Osun State on the order of a prominent traditional chief over issues relating to land matter in the town is dead.It was gathered that Pa Adegboye died following complications he suffered as a result of injuries inflicted on him when he was tortured at the palace of Ogiyan in 2011.
Daily Sun learnt that Adegboye had since 2011 been hospitalized and was last year admitted at a private hospital before he finally gave up the ghost.
Counsel to the deceased, Mr. Yekeen Oladepo had in 2011 petitioned the Inspector General of Police and the state Commissioner of Police over the physical assault meted out to his client, describing the assault on Adegboye as an abuse of his fundamental human rights.
It was learnt that Adegboye incured the wrath of the traditional ruler when he challenged the decision of the community on the ownership of a parcel of land which belonged to his family.
Mr. Oladepo also alleged that his client was forcefully stripped at the palace of the Ogiyan during a peace meeting called by the monarch of the town, Oba Omowonuola Oyesosin between the concerned families claiming ownership of the affected land.
However, Adegboye was confirmed dead at Gedu General Hospital, Ejigbo where he had been receiving treatment since 2011.It was gathered that the deceased family had reported the matter to the police and the Director of Public Prosecution in the state Ministry of Justice was also handling the matter.
