Man Nabs 16 robbers in Plateau
Headlines, Plateau Friday, January 31st, 2014A HUNTER of armed robbers, who gave his name as Shehu Musa Aljan, has arrested 16 suspected armed robbers, including Fulani and Berom bandits who specialize in cattle rustling in the crisis-ridden areas of Riyom and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas of Plateau State.
Riyom and Barkin Ladi councils of Plateau have been crisis-ridden for over a decade leading to the loss of so many lives.
Speaking to newsmen Friday in Jos, Shehu Aljan said he and his team had succeeded in arresting those behind the protracted crisis in the state.
“These are the people behind the circle of crisis on the Plateau. Some bad elements among the Fulani and Berom ethnic groups teamed up and lunched attacks on either the Beroms or the Fulani and killed people and rustled their cattle. “They plan and attack Fulani and rustle their cows and take the cows to Berom areas; they also attack and kill Berom people and rustle their cattle and move them to Fulani areas. They have agents who organise, buy and sell their cattle and these agents are among those robbers that we have handed over to the Special Task Force (STF).” He said, “My work is hunting of armed robbers. My group, Mangal Security, is registered and any state I go, I seek the consent of the governor of that state. I have the consent of Governor Jonah Jang before I arrested those bandits.
“In the first operation, I apprehended notorious armed robbers in Mangu and their weapons and cows they rustled. The remaining criminals were apprehended in Riyom and Barkin Ladi. We have handed them over to the STF.” The major problem in the state is lack of sincerity on the part of some leaders. There are some traditional rulers in the villages that know about the existence of renowned criminals but choose to be mute over them and decline to report to security operatives maybe for fear of being attacked”.
One of the suspects, Ibrahim Ismail, who spoke with journalists said that he was arrested in Batchit district in Riyom on his mission to rustle 12 cattle in the area, saying, “I was being paid N70, 000 when we rustle cattle. We attack and rustle cows from both ethnic groups we find and move the cattle to Kibo and hand to our leaders.” He confessed that with their arrest, the crisis on the Plateau is over. The Spokesman of the STF, Captain Salisu Ibrahim Mustapha, who paraded the suspects at the STF headquarters in Jos, confirmed the incident and said that intelligence gathering and synergy between all security operatives led to the arrest of the bandits.
He called on the people of the state for more cooperation by reporting on activities that could help to rid the state of criminals and civil unrest.
