The Police Service Commission (PSC) yesterday announced the promotion of 35 deputy commissioners of police to the rank of commissioners.
In the same vein, 46 assistant commissioners of police were also elevated to the rank of deputy commissioners of police, while 56 chief superintendents of police were promoted to assistant commissioners of police.
Eighty-six superintendents of police moved up as chief superintendents of police.
A statement signed by its Chief Information Officer, Ferdinand Ekpe, said that at the end of its 20th plenary meeting held yesterday in Abuja and in the exercise of powers conferred on it by the constitution and its enabling law, the PSC took among other decisions, the promotion of a total of 219 police officers ranging from the ranks of superintendent to commissioner of police based on seniority, merit, availability of vacancies, favourable APER results and minimum of three years on a rank.
“In all, the Police Service Commission promoted 35 deputy commissioners who had fulfilled all conditions required for elevation to the rank of commissioners of police.
“Similarly, 46 assistant commissioners of police were further elevated by the commission to deputy commissioners of police while 52 chief superintendents of police were promoted to the rank of assistant commissioners of police,” the statement said.
It further revealed that “in its resolve that no competent officer of the force who truly merits promotions shall be denied, the commission equally approved the promotion of 86 superintendents of police to the rank of chief superintendent of police in the force”.
The Chairman of the PSC, Parry Osayande, while congratulating the successful officers, called on them to live up to the new responsibilities their elevation had placed on them.
He also admonished all members of the force to work hard so as to earn promotion as it was only competence and hard work that could earn an officer promotion.wp_posts
