Mikel’s Family Debunks Rumour of N20m •Resort To Fasting And Prayer
Headlines Friday, August 19th, 2011As the disappearance of Mikel Obi’s father, Pa Michael Obi is still shrouded in mystery, family members have resorted to fasting and prayer while also denying any link with the abductors.
When Saturday Tribune visited Obi’s family house at RayField in Jos on Friday, members of his family were seen in a sober mood while some were clutching their handsets in their hands, expecting a call from the abductors.
The wife of Pa Obi, Mrs Rose Obi in an interview in Jos said since the head of the family was kidnapped, the family has been praying because it has no any other option than to call on God to intervene and soften the mind of those holding Pa Micheal Obi.
“Today is one week that our daddy was abducted, we have been praying to God to come to our aid because there is nothing impossible for God to do. We have no other option than to pray to God to come to our rescue,” she said.
She denied the rumours doing the rounds that the family is in contact with the abductors adding that no ransom has been demanded. According to her, the news making rounds that those behind the abduction demanded for N20 million or N50 million was false.
She said: “ we have been hearing the rumour that the people who abducted our daddy are demanding for N20 million or N50 million to release him. the abductors are not in touch with us, neither have we recieved any phone call or contact demanding for any amount so far. We only heard of it from the media.”
The younger brother to Pa Obi, Christoper, who came to Jos from Lagos when he learnt of his brother’s disappearance, said he is sad and worried because his brother was an easy-going man, gentle and always willing to help people around him and wondered why he should be missing.
He pleaded to those holding his brother to release him and consider the contribution of his son, Mikel Obi to the country and individuals, adding that the ace footballer is a philanthropist who has been helping people irrespective of their religious or tribal affiliation.
“We are appealing to the nation to help us, we are not suspecting anybody. since I heard of the incident, I have been praying to God to touch the hearts of those holding him. The son has been of good to the nation, likewise his father,” he said.
However, the elder brother to Mikel, Tony, said they are disturbed that their father is missing, adding that his younger brother is devastated because only his manager, John Shittu, has been reaching out to the family.
According to him, their father did not return home from work last Friday, and four days later, his Mercedes Benz V-Boot car was found in Shen area of Rayfield. And when he and the police went there, there was nothing to give them a clue as to what could have happened to him.
