Militants abduct vessel, crew in Bonny

Suspected militants have attacked and abducted a fishing trawler, ‘Golden Harvest’ with its crew members in Bonny, Rivers State. Unofficial but dependable sources put the number of crew members at about 18, some of who were wounded.

The trawler was said to be on a fishing expedition on the Bonny high sea when the hoodlums struck. Both the vessel and its occupants were later taken to a camp where they were held for some time.

It was gathered that following military intervention, the hoodlums later released the vessel into the high sea and dumped some of their wounded victims in a hospital in Bonny.

As at the time of this report, some of the crew members were still being held by the hoodlums. When contacted, the spokesman of NNS Pathfinder, Lt. Commander A. Ayi, told Daily Sun that the rescue operation was carried out by Naval personnel in Bonny.

He said he was yet to get details of the incident.
