Militants threaten reprisal over killings by Northern protesters

MILITANTS under the aegis of the Niger Delta Liberation Force, NDLF, last night, threatened to revenge the  killings of Christians, especially those from the South-South in the some northern parts of the country by those protesting the victory of President Goodluck Jonathan in the April 16, presidential poll.

The group in a statement by its spokesman, ‘Captain’ Mark Anthony, said “NDLF shall be forced to direct its land force to mobilize for action to protect Jonathan’s victory and the future of Niger Delta people. For NDLF, we are ready to counter anybody or group of persons, who believe in resolving problems with violence.”

The group said, “the attention of NDLF, has been drawn to the orgy of senseless killings of Christians, especially South-South people in some northern parts of Nigeria by northern protesters over President Jonathan’s victory, which was acclaimed by both international and local observers as the freest, fairest and most credible in the history of the country.

“NDLF will not fold its hands and watch northern protesters slaughter Christians like goats in the northern region. We will match action for action, if the killing is not stopped immediately. The country belongs to all of us and no single geo-political region can claim ownership of the country by holding sway to power while milking Niger Delta oil and gas wealth to better their region for over 50 years.

“God has opened the eyes of Niger Delta people and we shall not continue to accept and remain second class citizens in our own land while the nation’s economy is being run and sustained with the proceeds of petroleum products found in our lands over the decades with nothing to show, except poverty and extra-judicial killings by Nigerian army.”

“This current killing in the North, if it were carried out by Niger Delta communities, the army of genocide under Joint Task Force, JTF, would have bombed and burnt down communities with aerial bomber planes,” it added.
