My ambition is not worth the blood of any Nigerian – Jonathan
Goodluck Jonathan (2010-present), Presidency Monday, March 7th, 2011Against the backdrop of violent incidents that have been recorded in political rallies in the country, including rallies where the presidential ambition of President Goodluck Jonathan is promoted, the president has charged Nigerians to shun violence.
According to him, his ambition was not worth the blood of any Nigerian. The president stated this on Monday in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign rally, which was held at the Uyo township stadium.
The president advocated the unity of the country, stating that Nigeria must be united for transformational development of every state. He stressed that he and his deputy, Mohammed Namadi Sambo, represented unity.
His words, “anybody who is preaching destruction does not want the good of this country. I have always said it even when I was contesting the governorship of Bayelsa State that neither my ambition nor anybody’s ambition is worth the blood of any Nigerian .”
He advised Nigerians against electoral violence but to adhere to one man one vote, emphasising that anyone that votes must wait for the result as a way of protecting the votes.
He promised the construction of coastal roads and rail lines from Lagos to Calabar and the expansion of the East- West road, which he said would be completed within the next four years as well as the construction of new refineries that would aid in the production of all petroleum products from the crude.
The president further assured of constant power supply in the country within the next four years, claiming that it was essential for the development of small and medium scale industries that would provide job for the teeming unemployed youths.
“In the next four years, the problem of power supply which is not constant will be taken for granted,” Jonathan stated.
