My life in danger –Tinubu

Former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Saturday raised fresh alarm over threat to his life, saying he was not afraid to die in the course of achieving democratic freedom for the country, even as Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, SAN, assures of more roads in the state.

The duo, who spoke at the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) political rally in Ikeja, Lagos, said better days were ahead for Nigerians, urging them not to be intimidated by forces inimical to the development of the country’s hard-earned democracy.

Tinubu said series of nocturnal meetings were being held on how to eliminate him, pointing out that the most recent was held by members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) at Obalende on how to cause mayhem in Lagos to scare voters away from casting their votes.

The party leader lamented that at a time ACN was campaigning all over the state addressing issues, other parties were perfecting how to rig the elections, warning that such action could result in serious civil unrest.
Addressing the mammoth crowd at the Ikeja rally, Governor Babatunde Fashola assures of his administration’s resolve to construct more roads in the state, adding that the economic prosperity of any nation depends on good infrastructure.

He also carpeted the recently passed budget of the Federal Government, saying it would not bring about the expected rapid infrastructural development. He said 77 per cent of the N4 trillion signed into law had been allocated for recurrent expenditure, leaving only 25 per cent for capital expenditure.

“Out of the N4 trillion, 77 per cent is for chop chop. Only 25 per cent is for capital expenditure,” he said, and wondered how the small percentage could bring about good roads, electricity and other social infrastructures. He also said the problem was further exacerbated by delay in the passage of the budget, especially coming out at a time the rainy season had commenced.

According to Fashola, his ACN government has already commenced work based on early passage of the state’s budget, adding that in the past four years his government had been able to work on 19 roads, bringing 17 to completion. He said the state had embarked on 16 drainage projects, including canals and that his government had delivered on promises made to the electorates.

He promised to run an inclusive government devoid of discrimination, and called on the electorates to vote for performance and not on tribal and religious sentiments. In his message to the gathering, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu begged the electorate to vote for Fashola, stressing that he remains the best man for the job and that a vote for him amounts to attempt to renew the future of Nigeria.
