NFF launches ‘Operation Guinea Must Fall’

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is determined to render support to the senior national team, the Super Eagles in its quest to destroy the might of Guinea in the last Nations Cup qualifier in Abuja next month.

NFF bigwigs rose from their emergency meeting on Monday in Abuja and resolved to throw their full weight behind the team towards qualifying the country for the Equatorial Guinea and Gabon joint host event.
Although Guinea is leading Nigeria with three points, Coach Samson Siasia needs an outright victory to grab the ticket at stake in the Group 2 of the qualifiers.

NFF Executive Committee, also lauded the team’s outstanding 2-0 victory over Madagascar in Antananarivo, describing it as the greatest feat ever performed by the team in recent times, even though, the team lost woefully 1-3 to Argentina in a recent friendly international in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

NFF, at the same time, pledged similar support to the senior women’s team, the Super Falcons and the Under-23 men’s team, the Dream Team V, for them to qualify for the football events of next year’s Olympic Games in London.
In a communiqué issued and signed by Barrister Christopher Green, NFF decided to supervise the elections into the chairmanship position of the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) and chairman of chairmen to be held at the FIFA Technical Centre, National Stadium Complex, Abuja today starting from 10am, in line with an Abuja Federal High Court order.

The elections will be conducted by the already constituted NPL Electoral Committee. The two persons who have resigned their candidacy (Mr. Tony Rafua and Mr. Felix Anyansi-Agwu) will not be part of the election.
The electorate will be composed of the 20 Premier League clubs as at the time of the elections that were nullified by the court order.

Meanwhile, the National Beach Soccer team was praised for its gritty performance at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Ravenna, Italy, which saw the team stretch the then-reigning world champion, Brazil, to extra time in the quarter-final.
Among those who attended the meeting were the NFF President, Alhaji Aminu Maigari, Mike Umeh (1st vice president), Shehu Adamu, Christopher Green, Olaleye Adepoju, Effiong Johnson, Muazu Suleyman, Ahmed Yusuf, Musa Amadu (secretary).
