Nigeria’s envoy to sponsor 2 ABU staff to Canada

Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Canada, Professor Iorwuse Hagher has pledged to sponsor two staff of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria to Canada to study complex lighting systems. Professor Hagher, an alumnus and several years lecturer in the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria made the pledge during a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Abdullahi Mustapha on Tuesday.

He said he was duty bound to pay back to the university which did not only mould him but also opened up wider horizons for him.
He said he had already made contacts with several universities in Canada to establish linkages with the Ahmadu Bello University in the fields of agriculture and veterinary medicine, adding that the response from those universities was very encouraging.

On the global spread and exploits of ABU Alumni, the high commissioner disclosed that one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in Canada was owned by Nigerians, Odidi and Amina, who were both alumni of the university and that he and Odidi had discussed ways to best assist the university.

He advised the university administration to go beyond making contacts with its alumni as a group, to recognizing individuals within it, whom he said, would be so pleased and ready to do more for the university.
“As vice chancellor, you are an ambassador. Do a lot of globe trotting and leave your DVC to do the, administrative work”, he said. He extended an invitation to the ABU vice chancellor to visit Canada to fine tune those contacts he had already made.

The vice chancellor, in his remarks said the university recognized Professor Iorwuse Hagher as an illustrious son, who had a burning desire to promote his alma mater. He thanked the high commissioner for the contacts he was making on behalf of the university and pledged to pursue those contacts with the seriousness they deserved.
