Nigeria must get its democracy right -British envoy
Africa & World Politics, Headlines Monday, June 27th, 2011The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Andrew Lloyd, on Monday, declared that Nigeria must get its democratic process right saying Nigeria’s democracy is critical to the success of democracy in the African continent.
This came just as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Aminu Tambuwal, disclosed that the House was ready to collaborate with the British government and other diplomatic communities in Nigeria who are interested in Nigeria’s democratic process.
This came to the fore when the British High Commissioner visited the Speaker at the National Assembly complex with Tambuwal saying that Nigeria will continue to cherish the long standing relationship between the two countries.
According to him, the House will not only work to sustain the long standing relationship but will also explore necessary collaboration that would consolidate Nigeria’s democracy.
In his earlier remarks, the British High commissioner congratulated Tambuwal on his election and wished him a successful tenure.
Meanwhile, the Speaker has promised to support the National Hajj Commission to enhance its operations.He said, “we must always take interest in whatever your commission and your sister commission is doing to ensure that we have hitch-free exercise.”
