Nigerian leaders lack commitment – Balarabe

Second Republic Governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, has blamed Nigerian leaders for the myriad of problems facing the country.

Speaking at the inaugural lecture in honour of the late activist, Mr Ola Oni, in Osogbo on Monday, the former governor said unemployment remained the greatest problem facing the country.

He said, “There may not be peace in Nigeria unless the government provides solution to the high level of unemployment in the country.

“This is the singular solution to our many problems.

“There cannot be peace in Nigeria unless our leaders solve the problem of unemployment in the country. The government itself is even responsible for the high level of unemployment in the country.

“The situation may continue unless something is done to solve the unemployment problem in the country.”

Urging Nigerian leaders to show commitment and honesty in governance,

Balarabe said the dividends of democracy would be engendered if leaders were ready to sacrifice.

Explaining that the solutions to the problems facing the country lay with Nigerians, Balarabe said foreigners would not help solve the problems confronting the nation.

Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola said Oni lived and died for the masses and the betterment of the society.

He said the late activist was always concerned about how to organise the society and correct the political imbalances of the time.

Aregbesola described Oni as a detribalised personality, who tirelessly sought the betterment of the society.

He said, “The nation should learn about the ideals of the late Comrade Ola Oni. Ola Oni gave everything to the cause of the people. He lived his life totally for the masses that we could hardly find fault in him.”
