Picture: ‘Nigerian male nurse tried to kidnap teenager for sex in UK’
Africa & World Politics, Headlines Thursday, April 6th, 2017A cancer nurse, Michael Ohaegbu, attempted to kidnap a 16-year-old girl with intent to commit a sexual offence, a prosecutor told the Hull Crown Court, according to reports by the British Press.
He is also facing three counts of voyeurism after another lady complained that he filmed her naked twice without her consent.
The Hull Daily Mail reported that the prosecutor, Charlotte Baines, told a jury that Ohaegbu, 42, had in the first case attempted to drag the teenager into his car around 12:30am on September 26, 2016.
The nurse who worked in the oncology ward at Castle Hill Hospital allegedly approached the girl and asked her for a light before asking her to get in the car.
After she declined, he went after her, causing her to start running out of fear, but he drove after her and caught up with her and grabbed her arm when her bag got stuck in a railing.
Baines said despite her repeated refusal to get into the car, Ohaegbu tried to force her in and told her “repeatedly to get in the car, and was getting angry because she kept refusing”.
Fortunately, an old friend of hers saw what was happening and called the police and gave them the car’s registration.
When Ohaegbu was arrested over an hour later, he allegedly smelt of alcohol, failed a breath test and was identified by the teenager as her attacker.
Also, Baines told the court that there were 16 condoms, three tins of Vaseline, and a roll of tape in the glove box of the car.
She said when the police questioned him, he said the condoms were from a health centre and the Vaseline was for dry skin without giving any explanation for the tape.
Baines was quoted as saying, “It is the prosecution’s case that the defendant has committed a number of offences against both of these females.
“All of them were planned by the defendant, albeit concerning completely separate complainants, and are separated by time, but they have common features, and were offences carried out against their consent, and were motivated by the defendant’s sexual gratification.”
Ohaegbu however denied the allegations of attempted kidnap, assault, committing an offence with intent to commit a sexual offence, and three counts of voyeurism.
