Nigerians in Turkey Want Recall of Ambassador

NIGERIANS living in Turkey have appealed to President Goodluck
Jonathan to immediately recall the country’s ambassador to that
country, Ambassador Mallam Muderi for his alleged inability to
address the issues concerning Nigerians in that country.

Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian community in Turkey,
Johnson Iwedinauwa regretted that all the effort made by the
community for the ambassador to identify with the Nigerians there
has proved abortive adding that at every international gathering
there, Nigerians always felt like orphans because their ambassador
will not be there.

He gave example of the absence of the ambassador and his
assistants at the Galatarasy arena in Turkey during the national U-
20 team’s Round of 16 elimination by Uruguay saying that other
countries have their high compassions organizing and identifying
with them while that of Nigeria is the opposite.

“Look at the situation here today, you saw for yourself how the
other countries that have played here were organized by the
embassies with their national flags and they sat at one place
cheering their people but in the case of Nigeria, the case was
different and he ambassador was nowhere to be found nor his staff
and that s the system with Ambassador Muderi”.

According to him, with over 5000 Nigerians living in Istanbul alone,
there is every need for the embassy to relate and cater for the
needs of the people especially when it has to do with consular
assistance like it is done in other places.

“Could you believe that we have no form of communication with the
high commission and the ambassador himself? They d not care
whether there are Nigerians here or not because all our letters for
them to even meet with the leadership of Nigerian community were
not replied. In fact he is only representing himself and not the
Nigerian people living here in Turkey.

“Even the consulate here in Istanbul, we have been calling him for
the past four days to find out how we can as a group come together
to make our brothers and sisters that have travelled from Nigeria
for this championship to feel at home but he never answered and
that is why Nigerians were not seen sitting a particular place to
cheer their team to victory” Iwedinauwa concluded.
