‘Nigerians must reject same-sex marriage’ -NTDC
Headlines Tuesday, November 8th, 2011The Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) says Nigerians must
collectively reject and condemn the activities of people canvassing for the
practice of same-sex marriage in the country.
The Corporation warned that Nigeria should not invoke the annoyance of God by
allowing the clamour for same sex marriage to take root in the country because
Nigeria cannot afford to plunge into a moral abyss.
The Director General of the NTDC, Otunba Segun Runsewe stated this while
reacting to the call by a Nigerian lesbian physician who recently made a
presentation at a public hearing of the Nigerian Senate.
“There is no religion in Nigeria either Islam or Christianity that approves same-
sex marriage so let us not get God angry with our country because it is bad,
satanic and demonic and can destroy the entire system.” He said
He, however, commended the national assembly and traditional rulers for
distancing themselves from the alien practice revealing that foreign aids are
given to those clamoring for the approval of same-sex marriage in Nigeria,
adding that such aids were the motivating factor.
Recalled that Nigeria kicked against the United Nations’ resolution that
endorsed the rights of Gay, Lesbian and Transgender people through her United
Nations representative at the council, Ositadinma Anaedu who warned that the
world body could turn into a “guinea pig” of policies that cannot be implemented
by member states.
However, Nigeria’s vote was not enough to kill the resolution which was passed
by the Geneva-based council with 23 countries voting in favour, 19 against and 3
abstaining.
The resolution was sponsored by South Africa and received the nod of the
United States, the European Union, Brazil and other Latin American countries
with Nigeria’s representative who spoke on behalf of the African group saying
that African countries and more than 90 per cent of the African people did not
support the resolution.
