Kim Jong- Un orders North Koreans to give up their pet dogs to be eaten
Africa & World Politics, Headlines, NNP News Monday, August 17th, 2020(NNP) It is not a good day for pet dog owners in communist North Korean as they have been ordered by the supreme leader, Kim Jong-UN, to submit their pet dogs for meat. The state called pet dogs a “decadent” luxury and “a ‘tainted’ trend by bourgeois ideology,” and should be given up for food, reports South Korea’s Chosun Ilbo media outlet.
Food security has always been a concern in the reclusive state and this move is designed to address the dwindling economy and the thin food supply for a population that is on the verge of starvation.
According to a source, “Authorities have identified households with pet dogs and are forcing them to give them up or forcefully confiscating them and putting them down.”
The government plans to sell some of the animals to restaurants that deal in dog meat.
