Ogun CP blames Police for allowing robbery

By DAUD OLATUNJI

ABEOKUTA—A gang of armed robbers Sunday, laid ambush on  cow sellers traveling  along Kobape-Siun-Sagamu on the  dual carriage highway  in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State,  carting away an  undisclosed amount of money.

The  State Police Commissioner, Ikemefuna Okoye, has, however,  blamed the incident on  the inability of   policemen detailed to patrol the road at that time, threatening to deal decisively with the erring policemen  for  alleged dereliction of duty.

Already, the CP as gathered, had ordered that the policemen who ought to be on patrol be made to explain why they flouted the directive. The policemen were reportedly being  interrogated by the command’s provost  for onward disciplinary measures.

Vanguard learnt that the robbers laid siege for the cow sellers who were being conveyed from Lagos  to  Aiyetoro a town in Ogun State at about 3.45pm.

But only one of the traders as gathered, was robbed of all his money as there was reportedly a shoot-out between the robbers and a police patrol team around Siun, which forced them to discontinue with their operation.

Confirming the incident, spokesman for the Ogun State Police Command, Muyiwa Adejobi, hinted that during the shoot-out, the robbers managed to escape with bullet wounds and therefore appealed to doctors to be on the look out for patients with bullets wounds and report such to the police.

He informed that the cow dealer whose money was stolen from him was also injured in the process, adding that the policemen were combing the area for the fleeing robbers while the injured victim had been taken to the hospital

The command’s boss,  Ikemefuna Okoye , according to Adejobi would be meeting with the  cow sellers with a view to giving them security tips on how to  curb such attack, while reinstating the command’s resolve to protect travellers from hoodlums along the route.
