Olympic team beat Tanzania
Headlines Sunday, June 19th, 2011Ekigho Ehiosun scored his fifth goal of the qualifiers as Nigeria’s Under-23 team cruised to a 3-0 win over Tanzania in their 2012 Olympic Games qualifier on Sunday.
The game was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday, but torrential rainfall in Benin City rendered the pitch unplayable and the game had to be moved back 24 hours.
It did little to dampen the spirits of the Nigeria lads, who were also shorn of a number of key players.
Ehiosun wasted little time calming whatever frayed nerves there were in the stadium with a goal in the opening 7 minutes.
Ganiyu Oseni confirmed Nigeria’s domination with a second just before the hour mark, and with Tanzania needing just a goal to advance, Ahmed Musa put a gloss on it, and sealed Nigeria’s progress with a late effort two minutes from time.
The Nigerians now go into an eight-team qualifying series where the top three qualify automatically, and the fourth team goes into a playoff.
