Osaze Must Apologise – Siasia
Headlines Sunday, June 12th, 2011Super Eagles head coach, Samson Siasia, has reiterated his stance in ensuring discipline among players of the national team, stressing that the unity of the team is more important than any individual preference.
He said any player that flouts his orders or go contrary to the team’s camp rules must accept his mistake and apologise publicly to him or the team if he hopes to return to the national team.
Contrary to speculations that the West Brom of England striker, Osaze Odemwingie, has called to apologise to the coach over his unruly behaviour, Siasia said he only saw Osaze’s apology on the pages of newspapers. “Look, Osaze must apologise to me or the team directly, if not he should forget it. You people are only talking about his apology on the pages of newspapers. He should come and apologise to me or the team and not on the pages of newspapers. We must maintain discipline in the team,” he said.
Osaze had stated in an interview with Brilla FM, where he apologised on air to Samson Siasia, that he was misunderstood and he was only expressing his opinion, after he pleaded with the Eagles coach that he wanted to leave early and treat his injury, but left anyway without an approval.
Odemwingie was believed to be upset that his attitude was questioned after he opted not to play in the Super Eagles’ friendly against Kenya after Nigeria’s Nations Cup qualifier against Ethiopia in March.
Coach Samson Siasia, who will not take any nonsense from any of his players, subsequently left him out of the squad for the friendly match against Argentina and the reverse leg of the Nations Cup qualifier with Ethiopia last week.
