Own goal stops Enyeama clean sheet record chasing run

Mikel-Enyeama-AnichebeVincent Enyeama’s invincibility at goal ended on Sunday after Lille teammate Simon Kjaer deflected a harmless Landry N’Guémo’s shot to beat the Nigerian keeper in the 27th minute.

The vital lone-goal victory pushed Bordeaux to the sixth position in the French Ligue 1 log.

The Super Eagles goalkeeper had gone 14 matches without conceding a goal and it was the first time he had had to pick the ball out of his net since September 15 in the 2-0 defeat by Nice.

The former Enyimba shot stopper had been closing in on the overall Ligue 1 record of 1,176 minutes held by Gaetan Huard for Bordeaux during the 1992-93 campaign. Enyeama only conceded after 1,062 minutes.

“I cannot hide my relief because I was worried the record would go,” Huard told French sports channel Bein Sport after watching the match on Sunday.

Reuben Gabriel got his first league action on Saturday, featuring against Ross County in Kilmarnock’s 2-1 away win at the Global Energy Stadium in the Scottish Premier League. He was on for 73 minutes before being substituted for Barry Nicholson, while teammate, Rabiu Ibrahim, was on the bench throughout the encounter.

It was Gabriel’s second official game for the club after first playing in the Scottish Cup against Dundee United last month, a game he featured for 83 minutes.

The former Kano Pillars midfielder had earlier criticised Kilmarnock manager, Allan Johnston, for not giving him the chance to play, hinting at a possible move away from Rugby Park.

Karabükspor got yet another victory in the Turkish Supa Lig courtesy of first-half goal from Joseph Akpala against Kayserispor on Sunday. It was Akpala’s third this season and it lifted the club to eighth in the log with 20 points, 15 points behind league leader Fenerbahce.wp_posts
