Parents plead with NYSC not to post their children to the north

NYSC DG, Tsiga addressing some corps members

Gripped with fear of insecurity in the country, parents of the next batch of youth corps members have pleaded with the management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to rescind its decision on posting of fresh graduates to danger prone zones in the country.

The plea was made against the back drop of deployment of thousands of fresh graduates to Borno and Bauchi states where the NYSC had earlier assured that the youths would not be posted to because of insecurity in those states.

Speaking with journalists in Ibadan, the chairman of concerned parents assembly in Oyo state, Elder Oluseye Adejumo said that it is disappointing to hear that the NYSC still deployed youths to Bauchi and Borno states knowing fully well that the lives of these fresh graduates were not safe in those states because of the activities of the social misfits called Boko

Haram who insist that they are against western education.
‘We are not against the noble and patriotic objectives of the scheme which includes among others, fostering our national unity but we are flagrantly opposed to toying with the lives and security of our children and wards whom it has cost us fortunes to educate”, he declared.

He said that the concerned parents assembly had earlier taken the management of NYSC for its words adding that it was its belief that the security of lives of youths should be paramount and not made to be experimented on security.

‘’The tragic incidence in Bauchi where many corpers were massacred in their prime by a bunch of gullible illiterates is enough evidence that some people in that area ascribe no value to life and education. Their governor also said some nauseating things for which he has apologized so NYSC should be kind enough to spare parents the agony of weeping over the insecurity of their children and wards’’ he pleaded.
