PDP, ANPP supporters clash in Zamfara •9 people injured

t least nine people sustained injuries in a  fresh political crisis that erupted on Tuesday in Gusau and Tsafe local council headquarters of Zamfara State between supporters of All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Addressing journalists on the development, on Tuesday, at the state police command, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Adio Shittu said the crisis emanated following the destruction of properties belonging to one political party, by  rival party supporters in the areas.

He explained that six people were arrested by the police in connection with the incident while nine people sustained serious injuries including  the three persons that were hospitalised at the federal medical centre,Gusau.

Mr Shittu, therefore, warned political party leaders to play their game with respect to the rule and order governing their activities,pointing out that,the command will not hesitate to deal with any person  or group of persons found violating law and order.

“The command has noted with utmost concern,the manner in which the political environment is being overheated in recent times.Properties of various political parties are being destroyed, by rival party supporters.

Party members attacked their rivals thereby inflicting injuries on themselves while some of them have been hospitalised,” said the Police Commissioner said.

He revealed that reports reaching his command had indicated that,some party leaders armed the supporters with dangerous weapons in order to attack their rival politicians.

‘’This development is no doubt, putting fears in the minds of innocent citizens as well as promoting political instability in the state. We cannot fold our hands and watch this hopeless attitude.Mr President will soon visiting this state,we don’t want the kind of embarrassment that happened in some states to repeat here,” said Shittu.
