PDP crisis deepens

THE lingering crisis rocking the Adamawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which has equally snowballed into leadership crisis at the top echelon of the party has further deepened with the insistence of state chairmen of the party, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) joining forces with 23 PDP governors to call for emergency National Executive Council meeting of the party.

Aside calling for the NEC meeting, the state chairmen of the party have also insisted that Mallam Mijinjiwa Kaugama who was sacked by the national chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, remained the authentic state chairman of the party in Adamawa state.

Nigerian Tribune recalls that the national chairman of the party and governor of Adamawa State, Rear Admiral Murtala Nyako has been having a running battle with Alhaji Tukur over the control of party’s apparatus in the state.

The battle of wit between the duo had led to the dissolution of the executive of the party in the state led by Mallam Kaugama who was said to be loyal to the governor by Alhaji Tukur and appointed a caretaker committee headed by Ambassador Umar Damagum.

Supporting one of their own, the 23 governors of the party, it is recalled, had two weeks ago also insisted that Mallam Kaugama remained the party chairman in Adamawa State.

The PDP governors had equally aligned themselves with the resolution of the ten members of the National Working Committee (NWC) disbanding the Ambassador Damagum-led caretaker committee in the state.

However, the state chairmen of the party at a meeting held in Abuja under the chairmanship of the Benue State chairman, Dr Emmanuel Agboh, made known their position on the crisis rocking the party via the Adamawa debacle.

In a communiqué signed by Dr Agboh and the Secretary of the Forum, Mr Makunjuola Ogundipe said, “that the conference expressed delight on the development in Adamawa State which saw to the re-instatement of the Kaguma-led executive and appealed for continued fraternity on the part of members so as to further enhance the party’s internal cohesion.”

The PDP State Chairmen Forum then set up a committee to ensure reconciliation between the national leadership of the party and the governors, as well as the presidency.
