PDP crisis not strange – Lamido

Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has said the Peoples Democratic Party will not embarrass its National Chairman, Dr. Bamanga Tukur.

He said the problems in the party were not strange.

Lamido said this in Abuja on Thursday while addressing journalists after the meeting of the committee set up by the governors to handle the crisis rocking the Adamawa State chapter of the party.

The governor was responding to a question whether he and his colleagues had forgiven the embattled chairman of the party, who is currently holidaying in London.

Apart from holidaying, Tukur has also said he is in the country to attend to his health.

Lamido said the problem facing the party was expected because of its size, adding that there was no way a party would be as big as the PDP without having its challenges.

He said the hope of Nigeria lies on the PDP, adding that it would be difficult for the party to disappoint the country.

He said, “Whatever the problem between us and the national chairman is, we see ourselves as one family. There must be respect, there should be care. The PDP will not embarrass him.

“Our party interest first, the party fortunes, what we are going to do to restore confidence of Nigerians. ACN, ANPP don’t experience one percent of PDP headache.

“The bigger the head, the bigger the headache but we have the capacity to overcome it. We don’t fear crises.

“Do you know what they call human management? Naturally, in any human gathering there are crises, there are problems, but you see, the PDP has the capacity and the sagacity to solve and overcome its own problems.”

He said the meeting of the committee on Adamawa, which included the Governor of Abia State, Chief Theodore Orji; a former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana was well-attended.

Lamido, who also spoke on the alleged submission of two names to the Independent National Electoral Commission as the chairmen of the party in the state, said the problems were being resolved.

Asked about the implication of the two letters, he said the meeting “was excellent and it went on very, very well.

“Look, I have been saying, we have been trying to work as a family, to get the family harmonised and what we are doing is in the interest of all key players in the party.

“Those who feel aggrieved should come on board. We have been able to bury our personal ambitions and interest for the sake of the party, because it is the only hope for Nigeria.

“On the Adamawa committee, our report is ready and we are submitting it to Mr. President and I assure you that the report is wonderful.”

On the claim by a faction of the party in the state that its members were not invited to the committee’s meeting, Lamido said such claim was natural in any human gathering, but added that the PDP has the capacity “and the sagacity to solve and overcome its own problems.”
