The National Working Committee of Peoples Democratic Party has initiated moves to resolve the factional crisis in its Anambra State chapter, as it set up dates for the various congresses in its Edo State chapter.
According to documents from the party, made available to THISDAY, NWC directed the South-east National Vice Chairman of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh, and the governors of Enugu, Ebonyi and Abia states, who are members of PDP, as well as the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, and the Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha, to intervene in the crisis rocking the party in Anambra State.
“It was noted that the timetable for the congresses would help install a valid executive in Anambra State. In the meantime, the south-east zonal office should continue to run the affairs of the chapter pending congresses.

“The zonal chairman should also identify all factions and arrange a meeting of all south-east governors, the Deputy Senate President and the Deputy Speaker to solve the problem,” the NWC said.
The decisions are in line with the directive issued by the NWC on Wednesday after a meeting that the south-east zonal leadership of PDP should oversee the affairs of the Anambra State chapter until fresh congresses are conducted to elect new officers. According to PDP National Publicity Secretary, Professor Ahmed Alkali, “There are several factions in the state. We have directed the zonal committee in the south-east, headed by Chief Olisa Metuh, to oversee the affairs of the party in Anambra State.”
He said PDP had suffered several electoral losses in the past as a result of the endless crisis in the Anambra State chapter and appealed to members to give the zonal leaders a chance to resolve the impasse.
