PDP rules out 2015 automatic tickets for candidates

Peoples Democratic Party said on Tuesday  there would not be  automatic tickets for any of its political office holders in 2015.

It, therefore, said it would not amend its constitution to favour any of its elected officials who would want to contest election in the future.

The PDP said this in  a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh.

Metuh said, “What we are saying is that there will be no automatic ticket for any political office holders in 2015.

“We have said that  holders of elective positions can only secure another term based on their performance and their acceptance by the people in a free and fair primary election where all party members shall be guaranteed a level playing ground.”

He said there was no  truth in the report that the party wanted to model its internal nomination process after the practice in the United States of America.

He said, “The party is not involved in any process to amend its constitution at the moment. The 2012 amended copy is now the grand norm of the party and we intend to strictly abide by its provision.

“The PDP does not exist solely for the purpose of perpetual amendments of its constitution.

“We have already made our position known that holders of elective positions can only secure another term based on their performance and their acceptance by the people in a free and fair primary election, where all party members shall be guaranteed a level playing ground.

“The PDP under Alhaji Bamanga Tukur shall never short circuit the will of its members under whatever guise.”wp_posts
