Philippines president Duterte comes under fire for taking unapproved COVID-19 Chinese vaccine

(NNP) Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte has come under severe criticism from his countrymen after it was discovered that the iron-fisted president took a Chinese COVID-19 vaccine, Sinopharm, that had not been approved by the Philippines health authorities and the World Health Organization. The president acknowledged his lapse in judgement and asked the Chinese Embassy to take back 1,000 donated Sinopharm vaccines. The president asked the Chinese authorities to send only the Sinovac vaccine that has been approved in the country. The president also came under severe criticism when it was learned that his security team members were secretly inoculated even before vaccines arrived in the country. Philippines has one of the highest cases of the virus infection in the region.
