The late footballer, Olufemi Adebayo’s mother, Mrs. Titilayo Adefemi, yesterday, lamented that it was a long time she saw her son even before his sudden death on Monday.
Mrs. Adefemi, speaking at the family home in Ikorodu, Lagos, regretted that she would not see her son alive again. She revealed that she had not set eyes on her son since last year even when he hurriedly came home to play for Nigeria.
“I have not seen Olubayo since last year. We have only been talking on phone. But sadly, we could no longer see because I was expecting him to come home now for his proposed wedding arrangement that would never be,” Olubayo’s mum suddenly broke down in tears, while talking with Daily Sunsports yesterday.
Information had it that the late player planned to see his mother during Super Eagles’ Nations Cup qualifier against Ethiopia in Abuja, but he couldn’t, owing to his tight schedule.
His disturbed mother had threatened to kill herself but was prevented by persuading members of her family before the sad news of her son’s death in Greece was broken to her. Mrs. Adefemi described his late son as a generous person, saying that he never disappointed anybody, including his friends.
Meanwhile, plans were almost concluded for the burial of the late football star in Ikorodu next Thursday.
