Police Commission serves retirement notice to 14 AIGs

Indications have emerged that 14 Assistant Inspectors General of Police inherited by the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), MD Abubakar, on assumption of office, may have finally been asked to go by the Police Service Commission (PSC).

This followed the notification of their retirement letters on Wednesday, which some of them have collected, while others are yet to collect theirs.

Informed police sources disclosed to the Nigerian Tribune that the notice has finally laid to rest, the disagreement as to whether to retire or remain in service.

The IGP, on assumption of office, had shown outright that he might not be willing to work with the old AIGs hence, he submitted a list of 14 commissioners of police, who were promoted to the rank of AIG by the Police Service Commission.

The source disclosed that in spite of the presidency intervention, there are indications that the remaining party of their service may have been monetised, in order to enable the IGP to carry out a total transformation of the police force.

The logjam led to the delay of the new AIGs two months after their promotion and this made most of them to stay at home, as there was no office to occupy.

Meanwhile, the 14 new AIGs are currently on a two week course at the Centre For Management Development, Lagos (CMD), for a refresher course, to enable them prepare for the enormity of work in their new places of postings.

Also, their posting are now close to the IG’s chest, which will be made open by next week, at the end of their training.
