Police kill four suspected robbers in Ogun
Ogun, State News Saturday, June 2nd, 2012The police in Ogun State said in Abeokuta on Friday that their men shot and killed four suspected highway robbers.
The suspects were said to have attempted to rob a car conveying plainclothes policemen on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The suspected robbers numbering about seven had in the early hours of Friday, around Total Filling Station near Ogere, laid in ambush for the unmarked car the policemen were travelling in.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement that the suspects suddenly came out from the bush and blocked the car.
He said the policemen immediately opened fire and killed one of the suspects, while the remaining six, who sustained gunshot wounds, fled into the bush.
The police spokesman said three other members of the gang were later found dead in the bush around the scene of the incident.
He added that the items recovered from the suspects included “a dummy gun wrapped with black tape, two live cartridges and one expended cartridge.”
“The command appeals to the public to always collaborate with the police for good service delivery,” Awojobi said in the statement.
