Police to deploy 10,000 personnel for PDP convention

Abuja – Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of FCT, Mr Michael Zuokumor, said that 10,000 policemen would be deployed to monitor Saturday’s PDP National Convention in Abuja.

Zuokumor, in a statement in Abuja, said the Police would be assisted by other security agencies to ensure hitch-free convention.

He said the team, comprising police mobile force, anti-terror squad and conventional police detachments, wound be deployed at the venue of the convention.

Also specially trained horses, dogs, high definition cameras and other modern equipment would be fully deployed.

The AIG said the measures were to ensure safety, orderliness and protection of everyone participating in the convention.

He said that diversion of traffic from all the routes leading to the Eagle Square would commence by 4 p.m. on Friday.

The AIG advised motorists and other road users to use alternative routes, adding that the closure would be temporary as the routes would be opened on Sunday morning.

He appealed to members of the public who were not accredited PDP delegates or officials to stay away from the venue.

“The police will not tolerate any act capable of causing breach of peace before, during or after the convention by any individual or group no matter how highly placed.

“The full weight of the law will be applied on miscreants, hoodlums, mischief makers and those who may embark on conduct contrary to the law.’’ (NAN).
