Press Release: Immortalize Kobani, Badey, Others, MOSOP Urges Rivers State Government

Condemn the Role of the RSG in their Death
The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) has called on the government of Rivers State to immortalize former political leaders of the state Chief Edward Kobani, Mr Albert Badey, Chief Theophilus Orage and Chief Samuel Orage who lost their lives in an unfortunate incident in Giokoo on May 21, 1994.
President of MOSOP, Fegalo Nsuke made the call today in memory of the four Ogoni chiefs who lost their lives in the course of the Ogoni struggle for justice 26 years ago.
MOSOP said the pains of the death of Chief Edward Kobani, Mr Albert Badey, Chief Theophilus Orage and Chief Samuel Orage remain one painful incident the Ogoni people would wish never happened.
The MOSOP president, Fegalo Nsuke, said it was unfortunate that the Rivers State Government at the time of their death played an ignoble role which contributed to their death and urged the state government to immortalize the four prominent Ogoni chiefs whose legacies are still very visible in the state today.
Nsuke further said “the Ogoni people will not forget the role Shell Petroleum Company played in these murders and those which followed noting that it is one of the reasons the Ogoni people still treat Shell Petroleum Company as Persona Non Grata in Ogoni. Shell, he said, has caused terrible devastation in Ogoni and does not care about human lives.. All Shell cares about is oil and money and not the people”.
While pledging MOSOP’s commitment to sustain the Ogoni struggle for justice and freedom in Nigeria, Nsuke called for greater unity amongst Ogonis noting that the sacrifices of the martyrs should not go in vain.
