Renewed threat to arrest me unconstitutional -Tokyo

THE embattled chairman of the Oyo State branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Abdul-Lateef Oluwatoki (a.k.a. Tokyo), has replied the new state Commissioner of Police, Mr Tambari Mohammed, saying that his fresh threat to arrest him over the intra-union crisis was “illegal and unconstitutional.”

Tokyo’s pronouncement followed a statement credited to the new commissioner that he was poised to arrest Alhaji Akinsola and one other NURTW chieftain in the state, after having allegedly indicted his predecessors of not having done enough in the search for the duo.

Reacting, Tokyo said by virtue of a recent judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, the renewed threat was illegal.

The CP was quoted as saying that with his arrival in Oyo State, he was determined to challenge the NURTW leaders to surrender themselves to the police command.

But Alhaji Akinsola, in a release signed by him, copies of which were made available to Nigerian Tribune in Ibadan, on Wednesday, said he wondered why the new commissioner of police, who is renowned to be a crack detective, had jumped into conclusion without effectively consulting with his lieutenants on the present position of things in the matter.
