Police in Niger State have shot dead a suspected armed robber while two other colleagues were arrested along Mokwa-Tegina Road. Four others who sustained injuries during a shootout with the police are said to be at large.
It was gathered that nemesis caught up with the suspects while robbing motorists on Friday on the highway. The suspected robbers had reportedly been unleashing terror on motorists on the busy highway in the past few weeks.
The police allegedly acted on a tip-off when the suspects were busy carrying out their nefarious activities.
The gang, on sighting the police, it was learnt, abandoned their victims and opened fire on the police who returned the fire. One of the suspected robbers was killed in the process.
Public Relations Officer of the state police command, ASP Richard Oguche, confirmed the story, adding that those who escaped with gunshots were being trailed and promised that they will be fished out dead or alive.
Oguche said the two suspects arrested have made useful statements to the police which he said will help in their investigations.
